Glorious Switzerland, by Insight Vacations
Ah, Switzerland. Perhaps best known for its impeccable watches, silky chocolate, creamy cheese, monumental mountains and best-in-class champion tennis players, Switzerland is a country of sweeping picturesque landscapes, charming fairytale villages, and easy access outdoor adventure suited for most travellers. A land of sensational superlatives!
Travelling to Geneva off and on for work over the last decade, I very much enjoy Switzerland’s second largest business city, which houses the headquarters of Europe’s United Nations and the Red Cross. My jaunts through the numerous ski resorts and traditional villages tacked on to business trips had already whetted my appetite for more, and in September, 2018, I decided I needed to really explore what this country had to offer. The Insight Vacations Glorious Switzerland does not disappoint.
If you love the great outdoors filled with iconic, eye-popping mountain vistas, picturesque valleys and spectacular lakes of every glacial hue, Switzerland will charm and enchant. With experiences designed to connect you to local people, tradition and culture, (let’s not forget a ride on the thrilling Glacier Express, and a bonus stay at elegant Baveno on Lake Maggiore in Italy’s Lake District), a tantalizing variety of delectable, tasty Swiss campagnard treats (so much more than chocolate and fondue), this sweeping Glorious Switzerland trip is a must.
Traveller tip: L’Hôtel d’Angleterre, one of my favourite boutique jewels in the Red Carnation hotel portfolio, is situated right on Geneva’s Lac Léman, with enviable views of the iconic Jet d’eau and steps away from the charming, medieval old town. Start your Insight Vacations Glorious Switzerland journey off in style with your included stay at l’Hôtel d’Angleterre!
L’Hôtel d’Angleterre Leopard Bar signature cocktail, the ‘Dom Louis XIII’, which mixes Dom Pérignon Champagne and the very luxurious Louis XIII Cognac, is de rigueur when enjoying the superb live entertainment in Geneva’s elegant and cozy local hang for those in the know. Pourquoi pas?
The Swiss are renowned for their attention to detail and organization for very good reason, and their banks, city centres and public transport are a joy to navigate. Even more impressive are the immaculately groomed hiking trails and picturesque lakeside promenades that promise to delight!
